REVIEW FOR PUBLICATION: A New Guy?
Since practically everybody I know was going out of town for the Labor Day weekend (Raymond, Beauyn, Henry), I expected to be a little lonely, or at least alone. Didn’t turn out that way though.
On Friday night, I went to Omega, and ran into a guy who I’d met just the previous weekend, a friend of Raymond’s friend Randy. (Raymond just knows him as an acquaintance, I think.) His name is Eric Roberts, like the actor. He’s 26, good-looking, with auburn hair and a very nice guy. We basically wound up spending most of the weekend together.
It started on Friday as though it was just going to be a hook-up. We went to his place — actually the place where he’s pet-sitting. When I told him about my HIV status, though, he kind of put the brakes on. He’s had a lot of loss in his life lately (mainly his father having a massive stroke), and it seems like he wants to avoid any more grief. But he decided to think about it, and we actually went out on a date last night, Saturday. We went to see Planet of the Apes.
The movie was ridiculous, but the date was nice. He still seems a little skittish, and he did kind of back out of getting together this afternoon for a little picnic in the park sort of thing. But whatever happens, it was great to have someone to share the weekend with, and it was great to have a little romance in my life for a minute.
