The Three-Way Date
Last night’s planned dinner date with Kevin and his friend Todd was just great! We met at the District Chophouse and immediately started joking around. Todd is a local comedic actor, in addition to being a TV producer. So we had plenty in common, plenty to talk about, Todd was hilarious in a dry and kooky sort of way. And to my surprise, Kevin was also very, very funny. I’ve never seen him like that before, and I’d like to see more of it.
Todd and I are in different ends of the business for the most part, so I don’t know if we can help each other out with work directly. But he did point me toward something that may solve my biggest problem. Apparently, the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington offers group health insurance to its members. That’s right: group health. I thought that the Associational market for health insurance had completely dried up in the wake of Kennedy-Kassebaum, but I guess not. So I’m definitely going to look into that in the coming week. Maybe I’ll be able to stay in Washington, after all.
Of course, that may not be how it works out. I also got a call today from a headhunter, prospecting applicants for an Executive Producer position at Twin Cities Public Television in St. Paul, Minn. The description makes it sound like they really want someone familiar with PBS, foundation fundraising, etc., but the headhunter assured me they will favorably consider an accomplished commercial documentarian as well. I’m sending her a tape tomorrow.
