At Last: A Date!
Well, my New Year’s Resolution to write here at least weekly hasn’t gone exactly to plan. However, two weeks slacking is better than than two months, so here goes.
Last Friday night, I had an actual date. And not just any kind of date, but a date with the hot and hunky Cherrod. We had dinner at a nice restaurant and a movie — which he paid for (how long has it been since that happened to me?). The restaurant was a very nice linen-napkin New American restaurant in Cleveland Park, called Ardeo. Then we walked across the street to DC’s excuse for a grand movie palace, the Uptown, to see “Lord of the Rings.”
I loved the movie (although it was kinda fast-paced if you haven’t read the books, which I haven’t). What I liked even more was the way Cherrod and I held hands and were just generally romantic — like it was a real date. After the film, I dropped him off at his place. I’m not sure what is going on here, or whether we are or will be dating. But I’m certainly willing to stick around and find out.
And sticking around is what I’ll be doing, at least for several months. I wrote to my contacts at Bunim-Murray in Los Angeles, and was told that it will be until March or April before they are likely to be looking for producers/editors. So I’m here in DC for that long, at least.
Elsewhere on the long-term job horizon: Showtime and MTV recently announced that they are exploring the possibility of starting up a premium-tier Gay cable network. This may or may not short-circuit the plans of a startup group I have been kinda consulting for called Alt1TV, which is trying to do the same thing. But one way or another, I will be trying to get in the ground floor of this thing. All I have to do is figure out how.
In the short term, I am sort of at loose ends. Both of my main production company clients are kind of on hiatus at the moment, while they wait for renewal contracts from HGTV. Horizon wants me to do the “Inspector’s Notebook” segments for the next season of House Detective, and also possibly some other interesting stuff. But all of that is at least a few weeks away.
I’m going to try to fill up the time with WRC newswriting. But assuming there are extra hours, I’m going to be filling them with redesigning this website, which is now almost 3-1/2 years old, and has had the same look since the beginning. I will be updating the web-techology part of the site, as well, moving this journal from Newspro (which has more or less ceased development) to a spectacular up-and-comer called Moveable Type. I’ll also be converting the pages to Cascading Style Sheets, PHP, and some other alphabet soup, as well.
