Cherrod Auld Acquaintance…

Last Friday night, I went to a bar I rarely visit, Omega, just to do something different. I’m so glad I did.

It didn’t start too well. First, I ran into Nate, from the previous weekend, who showed only a bare minimum of interest. “Well, gotta go find my friends. See ya later.” Then, I ran into my old friend Mark, with whom I had recent friction over a professional contact. He said, “Hi, how ya’ doing?” then walked right on by. I was getting pretty bummed.

But then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Cherrod, a very hot sweetheart-of-a-guy whom I dated for a few weeks more than a year ago. He was there with a friend, celebrating his birthday, and boy was he in a good mood. So we all hung out and drank and talked, and generally caught up.

Cherrod was very friendly and physical. I guess my build has improved quite a bit since the last time I saw him, ’cause he could hardly take his eyes — or his hands — off my chest. (Now I know how a Hooters waitress feels! “Hellooo. I’m up here!”) At a couple of points, we kissed pretty passionately — which I guess caught Nate’s attention, because within seconds he scooted in next to us and introduced himself to Cherrod. (Cherrod later reported that he also said something like, ‘so where did you come from?’ under his breath.) It was pretty amusing; kind of like being a fire hydrant that two dogs use for a pissing contest.

Well, except that it wasn’t really a contest. Cherrod and I left together, came back to my place, and had great auld lange syne sex. It was actually much better than when we were dating, I guess because we were both much more relaxed about it. He stayed the night (which is pretty unusual here in Washington), and then we had breakfast at Dupont Italian Kitchen on Saturday morning.

I don’t think that this portends any kind of revival of our relationship… but it sure was enjoyable anyway.

On an unrelated note: Tomorrow, I have my first online personals date in ages, with a guy named Mike. I had noticed his ad a few weeks ago, thought he was cute, and was thinking about writing him, when he beat me to the draw. He’s 40, but judging from his online picture, he looks much younger. We were originally going to meet last weekend, but he had houseguests who took their time departing. Plus, I think he wanted to get to know me a little over the phone before we met in person. So now that we’ve talked on the phone, and decided neither of us is psycho or an jerk, we’re going to have brunch… once again at my favorite brunch place of the moment, Dupont Italian Kitchen. I’m really looking forward to; watch this space for details.
