Star-Spangled Beauyn

Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon at the USTA Maryland State Baton Twirling Championships, of all things. My friend Beauyn is a champion twirler (best male in the state) and coach, so I went to see what it was all about and lend my support. I got to see Beauyn practice (he competes today, and I’ll have to miss it because I’m attending a couple of cocktail parties), and I got to see dozens of teams — mostly little girls — show their stuff. It was actually pretty fun, and some of the moves are thrilling.

Beauyn says the USTA teams are not too good compared to those in the NBTA, which are fabulous. So maybe I’ll catch an NBTA competition some time.
