Writing Test Went Well (Big Whoop)
I just got back from my writing test at WRC, which went just fine (although I was a bit rusty, and any test makes me a little anxious). The Executive Producer, who I was meeting with, seems like a very nice guy, and Channel 4 would be a fine place to freelance. It’s just wierd applying for work that I already know I don’t particularly want to do. The test I took reminded exactly how dreary newswriting can be, especially when the job I’m up for consists almost entirely of rewriting (i.e. regurgitating) poorly written print wire copy. Oh well.
I’m supposed to call the Exec. Prod. next week to find out if I passed the test (again, it’s wierd, but I don’t know which would be worse, passing or failing). If so, they’ll bring me in for a couple of days of training, and then put me into the rotation. But I definitely got the feeling that I would build up to a decent amount of work at News4 just in time for my contemplated move to Los Angeles.
I sure hope I start getting legal temp work sooner. Like, soon enough to be able to pay next month’s rent.
